How the lock works
LockedIn uses features built into each phone’s operating system. It is not mobile device management (MDM), and it installs no device-management profile.
- iPhone (iOS 16.2 or later). LockedIn uses Apple’s Screen Time framework. When a student arrives on campus during school hours, the apps the school blocks are shielded automatically. When the student leaves campus or the school day ends, the phone returns to normal.
- Android (Android 10 or later). LockedIn uses an Android Accessibility service to block the apps the school chooses while the student is on campus during school hours.
- What always works. Phone calls to family and to 911, and any app the school allows. Schools can approve medical apps a student needs.
- Workarounds. The school dashboard flags students by name when something looks wrong, such as an unapproved second phone, an app that may have been deleted, location turned off or faked, or use of a blocked app.
LockedIn runs on students’ phones. Tablets, laptops, Chromebooks and watches are out of scope.
What data LockedIn keeps
- During the school day. LockedIn records whether a phone is on or off campus. It does not keep location coordinates. Administrators never see a student’s GPS position.
- During Emergency Mode only. When a school starts Emergency Mode, students on campus share their location with the school so staff can see who is where. A student off campus answers without sharing a location, unless they ask for help. These coordinates are erased when the school ends the emergency.
- Retention. Campus check-in records are deleted after 90 days.
- Security. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or later) and at rest (AES-256), hosted in the United States, and staff accounts support multi-factor authentication.

Emergency Mode
An administrator chooses the alert (lockdown, evacuation, shelter in place, medical or a general campus safety alert) and adds a message. One tap starts Emergency Mode on every student phone on campus. Each phone shows the message with two buttons, “I’m safe” and “I need help”, and staff watch responses come in on a live map. Calls to 911 and family always work. Schools can run drills, which are clearly marked as drills.
Separately, an administrator can unlock phones from the dashboard at any time: one student, a group or the whole school, for a set time or the rest of the day.
Roster integrations
LockedIn syncs student and staff rosters from Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster (including PowerSchool, Infinite Campus and Blackbaud), Veracross, Microsoft, Google, Canvas, Schoology and Moodle, or by SFTP or CSV upload.
Pricing
Schools get a written quote, priced per student per year. Pilots are available.
